Continuing Interests

OCV is currently involved in several critical issues affecting rural Orange County:

  • Defend Maple View Community - OCV is supporting this community effort with communications and outreach.

  • Convenience Center Advocacy - OCV is monitoring county plans to replace simple convenience centers with large, industrial scale centers in rural areas near homes and neighborhoods.

  • LUMOS Fiber Access - OCV is joining communities to assure that all the rural residents who were promised rural internet actually receive services.

  • Former Cheek Farm on Dairyland – This land is now owned by Blue Heeler Farm LLC, an LLC registered to Jeffrey Fisher.  Greg Bohlen has either management or ownership in the parcel.  The community has contacted us with concerns over silt and dirt entering Morgan Creek due to the construction on the parcel.  Morgan Creek is a protected waterway as it flows into University Lake.  Orange County, OWASA, NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and the Army Corp of Engineers are all aware of and monitoring this project.

  • Orange Grove Fire Department Site Expansion - OCV is researching recent disclosures that revealed that Orange Grove Fire plans to spend $1.7 million to expand the fire station on Rocky Ridge Road (next to Union Grove Farm) but has no plans to staff the station or take any other actions to improve the districts fire safety rating.  Questions have surfaced about lack of transparency, project rationale, and costs to taxpayers.

We are committed to serving rural communities as needs come up.  If you are interested in any of these initiatives, or would like our help with an issue affecting your community, please send us an email at OrangeCoVoice@gmail.com
